Grande Tradition 2007 88 pts
The 2007 Minervois Grande Tradition – a blend of Grenache with around 30% Syrah and 10% Carignan – offers pungently smoky and satisfyingly ripe aromas and flavors of crushed stone, charred wood, blackberry and cassis. Polished in feel, with hints of fruit skin and medicinal-herbal bitterness, this wine offers a surprising sense of lift and even lightness for a Languedoc red – seeming almost low-alcohol in its expression of 13.5% – and finishes with only moderate concentration, yet with a satisfying cling of black fruits, black pepper, and marjoram.
